Still further south, Vieux-Fort and Trois-Rivières and their view of Les Saintes. Going up the other coast, the landscapes change to less steep agricultural plains; in the background pleasant hikes, the most famous allows easy access to the Carbet Falls.
Basse-Terre is home to the Guadeloupe National Park: the entire center of the mountain is the heart of the Park and many hikes are well-developed. The Pigeon Islands in Bouillante are also the heart of the Park. To the north, from Basse-Terre begins the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin reserve, whose mangrove and white sand islets are protected.
This reserve extends over the eastern and northern part of Grande-Terre. The two main islands of Guadeloupe are separated by the Rivière Salée, a freshwater river mixed with seawater, and connected by two bridges.

Guadeloupe
Guadeloupe is an archipelago of five inhabited islands and numerous islets. The much flatter island of Grande-Terre is home to the economic capital: the city of Pointe-à-Pitre and its Creole architecture. There are many shops, especially fabric merchants who offer a wide selection of Madras patterns and colors. Toward the east of the island stretches the coastline of white sand beaches and its many hotels. Gosier, Saint-Anne, and Saint-François are the most touristy towns for beach and coconut palm lovers.
The easternmost point in Saint-François is called Pointe des Châteaux, a famous listed natural site.
The northern part of Grande-Terre is wilder, its coastline is made up of cliffs where the Atlantic waves break. In the hollow of the cliffs, some beautiful coves shelter beautiful beaches. The less touristy west coast also has beautiful beaches, such as La Chapelle in Anse-Bertrand or Le Souffleur in Port-Louis.
